April 17 Free Author Event: How Lies and White Supremacists Run Our Prisons, With Dr. Brittany Friedman
Join Racial Justice Allies for a conversation with author Dr. Brittany Friedman, on her new book, “Carceral Apartheid: How Lies and White Supremacists Run Our Prisons”
Dr. Brittany Friedman is a sociologist and associate professor at the University of Southern California. She is the author of an upcoming Winter ’25 book entitled “Carceral Apartheid: How Lies and White Supremacists Run Our Prisons.” This Zoom workshop will explore carceral apartheid, a term Friedman coined to describe how the state deploys carceral apparatuses — such as police, military, courts, and prisons — to disempower racialized groups. Friedman and attendees will discuss how carceral apartheid operates in America, both within the prison system and as a larger governing strategy used to decimate political targets and foster deceit, disinformation, and division in society.
